Ground penetrating radar applied to subsurface culverts

چکیده
The failures of culverts can result in water and soil loss the surrounding subsurface, leading to collapses. In densely constructed urban areas, buried are inaccessible invisible, making Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) inspection a widely adopted nondestructive efficient method. Previous research has employed artificial intelligence automate GPR interpretation by identifying special radargram textures, but irregular responses degraded subsurface soils present challenge. Therefore, this study proposes method for preliminary diagnosing large-scale based on wave attributes. comprises three parts: (1) evaluating compactness estimating tortuosity at culvert top; (2) investigating moisture using attenuation rate responses; (3) overlaying results incompact moist pinpoint potential degradations. Two long-distance were inspected diagnosed proposed method, abnormal sections identified confirmed excavation evaluation. case studies indicate that quickly provide reference further in-depth investigation, thereby improving survey efficiency reducing workload narrowing investigation scope. Consequently, facilitate surveys safeguard system.

Subsurface Imaging using Ground-Penetrating Radar Measurements
Much work has been done toward reconstructing the electrical parameters of an unknown buried object. Many methods, and accompanying results from simulations, have been presented. Most research in the area, however, has been in developing imaging algorithms that have been tested primarily through computer simulation. This paper presents a newly constructed facility for ground-penetrating radar e...
متن کاملRobotic Subsurface Mapping Using Ground Penetrating Radar
The goal of our research is to develop an autonomous robot for subsurface mapping. We are motivated by the growing need for mapping buried pipes, hazardous waste, landmines and other buried objects. Most of these are large scale mapping problems, and to manually construct subsurface maps in these cases would require a significant amount of resources. Therefore, automating the subsurface mapping...
متن کاملCompressive sensing for subsurface imaging using ground penetrating radar
The theory of compressive sensing (CS) enables the reconstruction of sparse signals from a small set of non-adaptive linear measurements by solving a convex ‘1 minimization problem. This paper presents a novel data acquisition system for wideband synthetic aperture imaging based on CS by exploiting sparseness of pointlike targets in the image space. Instead of measuring sensor returns by sampli...
متن کاملSubsurface surveying by a rover equipped with ground-penetrating radar
We discuss our experiences in integrating a commercial off-the-shelf ground-penetrating radar unit with an all-terrain rover. Straight-line subsurface surveys were generated in a fully autonomous manner using odometry and a simple visual servoing technique. Survey results for various terrains are presented. We discuss the configuration of the integrated system and make recommendations for both ...
